Service Description

Course Runs from January 16th to Feb 13th 2022 Sessions Sunday Morning (10-12am) and Thursday Evening (7.30-9.30pm). (Sessions are Recorded to allow catch up if you are unable to attend all sessions) Total 16 hours online learning + 2 included mentor sessions Total class limited to TEN participants maximum. Entry Requirements: This course requires a basic nutrition knowledge base and at least some experience with basic formulation for healthy pets. Veterinary and Non-Veterinary welcome Examples of suitable prior courses: The Companion Nutrition/Formulation course. RFN Full course + Formulation Experience Other suitable basic nutrition and formulation course (E.g. CASI) Experience with the RFN sheet is helpful, but those formulating with other software are also accepted (e.g. ADF). Please email if you are unsure whether you fulfil entry requirements. This course advances your clinical nutrition knowledge for a range of dietary responsive conditions. The course will also cover the legalities and practicalities of formulating professionally for pets with medical conditions (including deciding which aspects will require veterinary input and where to draw the line with medical advice if you are not a veterinarian). Sessions (2 hours each): Session 1: Spreadsheet and Formulation Refresher. Clinical Nutrition Requirements for Renal and Liver Disease Session 2: Clinical Formulation Workshop Renal and Liver Session 3: Clinical Nutrition Overview Allergic Disease - IBD, Cutaneous Adverse Food Reactions, Atopic Dermatitis (skin barrier support) Session 4: Clinical Formulation Allergic Disease Workshop Session 5: Clinical Nutrition Overview Pancreatitis, Diabetes, Arthritis, Cognitive Dysfunction Session 6: Formulation workshop Pancreatitis, Diabetes, Arthritis, Cognitive Dysfunction Session 7: Clinical Nutrition - Urolithiasis Session 8: Working in Clinical Nutrition Communication with the primary veterinary surgeon, Reading Veterinary History, When to refer back to the vet, When to turn cases down 2 Supervision/Mentor Sessions Included: Each Attendee receives two x 1 hour mentor sessions (to be used within 6 months of the course completion). You can use this as you prefer - e.g. going through formulations for clinical cases together, or discussing complex cases you may have come across.
